NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
