Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
