Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
