Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
