No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
