Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use exactly 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi/low provides an overwhelming array of wagering options and because you have many players trying for the high, along with a few trying for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
