The History of Poker Chips
Poker chips have been manufactured from a huge selection of materials in an almost endless assortment of variations since the birth of betting and the need to track winnings. The most common components used today in the manufacture of current poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the original of the bunch, have been made in the US since the late 19th century.
Back in the 19th century, poker players appear to be using any tiny valuable item imaginable. Early poker players occasionally used jagged gold pieces as well as chips – normally manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs started to play a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with slits to keep them neatly stacked together.
There is little or no debate that poker has increased constantly in popularity since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive increase of net gambling and unique TV shows, public appeal in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Many individuals are first introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and many will wager on their 1st hands on the net. Despite internet poker’s growth, not much competes with the feeling of mixing weighty poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the middle of a casino table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
