NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
